vCloud Director 8.20 Tenant Portal access problem

Power state change messages recorded every day in vlcoud

$

We are running vCloud 8.1 in multiple sites. I've noticed recently that it seems in all of the vapps in the event section under logs, each VM at certain times will record a message about a power state change. Specifically it says the following:

VM 'VM Name (GUID here) power state change (state=1)

I'll get that message for what seems like every VM, in every vapp across all sites. I haven't been able to find anything just yet on this anywhere. The VM's themselves don't actually have a power state change. Vcenter / ESXi host shows absolutely nothing when those messages get logged. I'm just trying to figure why the events log in vcloud records this every day. Seems to happen around the same time.

Anyone else notice this?

Configure or inject public SSH keys into a VM instance using vSphere or vCloud director

Hi,

Does any one know, if there is any way to inject the SSH keys pair into a virtual machine using vSphere or vCloud Director APIs. What can be the pre-requisites to do this.

Thanks,

Sachin

global.properties and responses.properties overwritten on my lab vCD. Can I recreate manually?

$

Long story short my I was doing something in my lab and didn't snapshot my vCD server ahead of time. My global.properties and responses.properties files were overwritten.  When I try to run /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/bin/configure I receive the following message

Error: Response file is required to configure this cell

Please use the response file created by the first cell configuration

and rerun the $VCLOUD_HOME/bin/configure command with -r option

supplying the full pathname to the response file as the argument to that option.

Is it possible to recreate global.properties and/or responses.properties by hand? I know the passwords for things like my SQL DB and java keystore.  I don't know the encrypted versions of the passwords that would show up in responses.properties.

I think if I have no other way out I could copy keystores from my production vCD server and the encrypted passwords from global.properties to my lab, but wanted to check if its possible to recreate my global.properties and responses.properties first.

Client Integration Plugin missing after Upgrade to 8.2

After I have upgraded to vCloud Director 8.2 (was necessairy because of a vcenter Upgrade to 6.5) I am no longer able to log into a vm console.

It is always telling me that the Client Integration Plugin is missing though it is installed. Same issue with different browsers (Chrome/Firefox)

I can't find any records regards the CLP for 8.2.

Download and Install the vCloud Director Client Integration Plug-In (2145401) | VMware KB here it is only available for 8.1

You is this maybe a complete different issue?

I appreciate any advise.

Java Apps appear half width in VMs accessed through RDP

$

Hello,

I created a Win7x64 VM and installed Java on it (currently build 1.7.0_45-b18).

When I access the VM through VCD under FireFox, and then open the Java Control Panel (or run a Java app), everything looks fine.

But, if I access the VM through RDP and then open the Java Control Panel (or run a Java app), the app is squished horizontally to occupy only the first half of the area, and it has a green background.

Here's an example:

http://i.imgur.com/laNG53C.jpg

I've changed the resolution settings in the VM from upwards of 1920x1080 down through 1024x768 with the same results.

I've also uninstalled and reinstalled Java.

Has anyone else encountered this or have a suggestion on correcting it?

Thanks in advance for any help,

- Tom

Hi,

In vCloud Director, vCD -> External networks -> Properties -> General info, user can see the vSphere Network Name. Is there any vCD API that provides these details.

I tried using /api/admin/network/{id} but it does not provide ths info. Does any one know, if there is any other API that gives the respective vSphere network name.

Thanks,

Routing public subnets to NSX Edge external interface within vCloud Director, possible ?

$

0

Hi,

Is there a way to route public IP subnets to an NSX edge external interface that will be used for DNAT without having to create an additional External IP ?

For example:

If my NSX edge has external IP address 1.1.1.1

I route 2.2.2.0/30 to 1.1.1.1

Can I used 2.2.2.1 - 2.2.2.2 for DNAT without having to create an External Network or adding network specifications to existing external networks ?

I tried a few ways in the lab but have been unsuccessful, so i'm thinking it's not possible but just want to double check,

SSL VPN Plus - vCloud Director 8.20 / NSX 6.2.5

$

Hello

I am working with vCloud director 8.20 and trying to configure  SSL VPN-Plus feature as explained in VMware Tenant Portal guide. Tenant portal guide explain  multi step configuration

Setup: vCD: 8.20, vSphere: 6.0 U2, NSX: 6.2.5

http://pubs.vmware.com/vcd-820/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vcd_820_tenantportal.pdf

Configure SSL VPN Server Settings

Procedure

1 In the tenant portal, on the SSL VPN-Plus screen, click Server Settings.

2 Select an IPv4 address.

3 (Optional) Type a TCP port number.

This TCP port number is used by the SSL client installation package. By default, the system uses port

443, which is the default port for HTTPS/SSL traffic. Even though port number is required you can set

any TCP port for communications.

Note The SSL VPN client requires the IP address and port configured here to be reachable from your

remote users' client systems. If you change the port number from the default, ensure the IP address and

port combination will be reachable from your intended users' systems.

4 Select an encryption method in the cipher list.

5 Configure the service's syslog logging policy.

Logging is enabled by default. You can change the level of messages to log or disable logging.

6 (Optional) If you want to use a service certificate instead of the system-generated self-signed certificate

that the system uses by default, click CHANGE SERVER CERTIFICATE, make your selection, and click OK.

7 Click Save changes.

ISSUE 1: When I complete Server settings and try to save it. I get message as shown below. Now question is:

As per Information provided in tenant portal guide I should be able to save the setting but I cant. Is this a Normal Behavior?

As part of resolution of shown message, I discard changes (as I don’t have any other option) to move to authentication tab and get below shown message

I created local authserver with default setting

ISSUE 2: When I tried to edit setting of authserver to change password policy I get below error message. Its surprising that I cant edit setting after auth server creation. Is this again a normal behaviour?

Below error can be seen on NSX Edge

ISSUE 3: I left authserver with default setting with no choice and tried creating a new user. I got below error message.  So far I am not able to configure SSL VPN- Plus feature using steps given in Tenant portal guide

Just to see if I can create a new user directly from NSX manager but I could not and got below error message

For me it seems a abnormal behaviour as i tried following documentation but i could not configure SSL VPN feature. I hope someone from VMware take a look at the sequence of steps explained in guide and issues i encountered while following it with component version provided above. Anyone encountered these problems?

Workaround I found:

I have one more VSE deployed in one of my Org vDC and for this vDC I didn’t do any other configuration for SSL VPN Plus. First step I did was to create a user and this time I didn’t encounter error. I can see a new local authserver got created and none of the setting for Authserver was found to be enabled

I tried editing auth server setting and I was able to modify setting without any error message

Report EdgeGateway IP Allocations and SubAllocations

$

Hello,

I need to report all my EdgeGateway IP Allocations and SubAllocations for a specific Network.

I found some information in the "Get-ExternalNetwork" PowerCLI cmdlet:

 (Get-ExternalNetwork -Name myNet).ExtensionData.Configuration.IpScopes.Ipscope.SubAllocations.Suballocation

But I am not able to match them to a EdgeGateway.

Has someone already done something like that before with PowerCLI?

Any hints for me?

In the API I was able to report that:

vCD-Edges.png

If there is no PowerCLI way I will create a REST based PowerShell Function...

Kind Regards,

Markus

Does vCloud Director 8.10 work with vCloud Connector 2.7?

$

Hi all,

We are running VCD 8.10 and vCenter 6, and after checking the interoperability matrix / vCloud connector documentation, both solutions are not compatible with vCloud Connector 2.7. Is there any problem if we use it? Is there any alternative tool for VCD 8.10? What about CMP?

Thanks in advance!

This issue occurs because the VXLAN vdnscope ID doesn't match vCloud Director Database vdbscope

Resolution:

To update the vCloud Director database with new vdnscope ID:

Stop the vCloud Director services.  [http://pubs.vmware.com/vcd-55/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.vcloud.install.doc_55%2FGUID-F14315CC-B373-4A21-A3D9-270FFCF0A417.html&__utma=207178772.74421005.1389919257.1404172063.1404344047.107&__utmb=207178772.1.10.1404344047&__utmc=207178772&__utmx=-&__utmz=207178772.1404344047.107.9.utmcsr=google|utmccn=(organic)|utmcmd=organic|utmctr=(not%20provided)&__utmv=-&__utmk=112319495]

Open a connection to the vCloud Director database using SQL Management Studio

Run this SQL statement:

select id, name, vdn_scope_id from network_pool where name = Name_VXLAN_Pool;

Note: Note the name and the vdn_scope_id for the affected pool.

Run this SQL statement to change the vdn_scope_id value for the affected network pool:

update network_pool set vdn_scope_id = vdnscope_new where vdn_scope_id = vdnscope_old and name = Name_VXLAN_Pool;

Note: Replace vdnscope_new and vdnscope_old with the new and old values. For example:

update network_pool set vdn_scope_id = vdnscope-3 where vdn_scope_id = vdnscope-2 and name = Name_VXLAN_Pool;

Start the vCloud Director services on a single cell. [ http://pubs.vmware.com/vcd-55/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.vcloud.install.doc_55%2FGUID-F14315CC-B373-4A21-A3D9-270FFCF0A417.html&__utma=207178772.74421005.1389919257.1404172063.1404344047.107&__utmb=207178772.1.10.1404344047&__utmc=207178772&__utmx=-&__utmz=207178772.1404344047.107.9.utmcsr=google|utmccn=(organic)|utmcmd=organic|utmctr=(not%20provided)&__utmv=-&__utmk=112319495]

Verify if vOrg  networks are created using the VXLAN pool.

If vOrg  networks are created, start the cell services

Hope it helps!!

Vcloud Director 5.5.6 version - RHEL 7- RHEL 7 network issue using Vapp network

Hi All,

Problem description:

>>RHEL 7 - RHEL 7 pings drops using vapp network(isolated) in vcloud director.

>>If we initiate ping from source machine(rhel7) to destination machine(rhel7) we do see initial ping drops up to 9 packets and then afterwards works fine and there are no further ping drops. Then if we try to initiate pings after a day or so then we encounter the issue again. It’s like RHEL7 has issues “awakening” its NICs or the portgroup after some standby time.

>>We are not experiencing such issue with any other OS(linux 6,windows) machines.

>>The issue is happening only with isolated network and not with organization network.

Please let me know if anybody else has face the same issue or the possible solutions for this?

VCloud Director - missing new VPN site 2 site parameter sha-256 sha-384 DH group 24 aes256gcm

Hello

We are using VCloud Director to manage our cloud based VMvare system at a hosting provider and also to configure the site 2 site vpn from the hosting Provider to our on premise VPN Gateway.

Actualy only Site 2 Site Parameter sha 1 dh Group 2 and so on are supported by the GUI of VCloud Director. But we have a security policy, to update this VPN Parameter to newer state of the art sha-256, sha-384, dh Group 24, aes256gcm and soon.

Does anybody know, when the available Parameter in VCloud Director will be Extended or how I can get this Information?

Exists a possibility for a feature request towards VMWare that the Parameter will be increased to get more secure VPN connection? Because sha1 is not secure anymore.

Thanks

Best Regards

VCD 5.5 + VCNS 5.5 upgrade or migrate

Hi,

We have vsphere 5.5 enviroment with VCD and vShield manager, we need to upgrade to vsphere 6.5, VCD 8.2 and NSX 6.3.

What will be the recommended way?

1. Upgrade the existing environment step by step.

2. Build a clean environment and migrate catalog, vApps templates etc. Is this a valid option?

This is one Cell environment.

Thanks.

vCloud API errors - GetResponse" with "0" argument(s): "The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request

$

I am running a portion of a script to increase the allocated resources to certain VM's within a vCloud vApp. The script does successfully complete sometimes and then errors other times - although it does seem to be more prone to error once the vApp is powered on.

This is the error I get:

ERROR: Exception calling "GetResponse" with "0" argument(s): "The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request."

  1. MainForm.psf (2478, 2): ERROR: At Line: 2478 char: 2

ERROR: +         $RAMresponse = $RAMrequest.GetResponse()

ERROR: + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have attached the portion of the script I have pieced together. I have included the IF statement within the function as it appears as though the error may be due to a task still being in progress on the VM?
