Failed to create external network as port group dvportgroup-xxxx or its VLAN ID xxxx is in use

$

I am busy scripting the creation of the DVS prot groups and external networks and organization networks in vCloud  5.5.4.

I have run the script a few times, but after the last cleanup I did through the UI I have been unable to create the external networks again.

I keep getting the error:

Failed to create external network as port group dvportgroup-xxxx or its VLAN ID xxxx is in use.

I have found the older KB articles for the DB tables to clean (KB2042474) but the table structure has obviously changed beteen versions.

I am hoping someone could point me in the direction of what I can run to clean up the new DB so that I can create these external networks again?

After un- and repreparing a cluster vCloud Director cannot create any VXLANs

$

After having selected a wrong Teaming Policy for the VXLAN vmknics I had to un-prepare the cluster, re-prepare it with the correct policy and setup a new Network Scope in vShield Manager.

Doing it this way was the recommended solution by a VMware support represantative.

Now, when I try to create a VXLAN in vCloud Director I get the following error message:

[ 45b5f0ef-36a0-4340-ab20-e952addb7119 ] Cannot deploy organization VDC network  (aae66214-7753-4dcb-8da4-c0a9f1dee568)

com.vmware.vcloud.fabric.nsm.error.VsmException: VSM response error (202): The requested object : vdnscope-4 could not be found. Object identifiers are case sensitive.

How can I re-link vCloud Director to the newly created Network Scope in vSM? If I understand correctly, vSM is using a different Object identifier, now.

I'm running vCloud Director 5.6.4.2619597, vSM 5.5.4-2673026 and latest ESXi 5.5/vCenter Server releases.

Hi, can you help me with troubleshooting problem with connecting to vCD using PowerCLI.

When I'm connecting using my System Administrator account

Connect-CIServer vcdCell01 -User 'user' -Password 'pass'

I'm getting:

Connect-CIServer : 11/30/2015 12:19:21 AM    Connect-CIServer        The

server returned 'Unauthorized' with the status code 401 - Unauthorized.

At line:1 char:1

   _ConnectError,VMware.VimAutomation.Cloud.Commands.Cmdlets.ConnectCIServer

I can connect to Web UI using same System Administrator account.

The only way I can connect with PowerCLI is when I create local account in one of organizations and add -Org to command

Connect-CIServer vcdCell01 -User 'localuser' -Password 'localpass' -Org 'org'

Max amount of RAM supported for any VM in vCloud Director

$

Today we have received a query from one of the customer for allocating 240 GB RAM for his SAP-HANA VM which is running in vCloud Air environment. He want to know if this is possible or not.

I don't have a clue about this. Even vCloud Director 5.5 config max doesn't list any config max of VM.

Any Idea guys?

Have anyone deployed such a huge VM ever in their environment?

vCD and vFabric AppDir Infrastructure Backups

$

0

Here's the environment:

  • ESXi 5.5 with vCenter 5.5
  • vCloud Director 5.5
  • vCenter Orchestrator
  • vFabric Application Director 6

The only item in this whole chain that is being backed up is the vCenter database...  I'm afraid.  Here are the infrastructure VMs:

  • 2 x vCloud Director cells
  • Connection server
  • SQL database server
  • vCenter (appliance I believe)
  • vCenter Orchestrator (appliance)
  • vFabric Application Director (appliance)
  • Infrastructure Navigator
  • vShield Manager
  • Update Manager
  • vRealize Ops Manager (appliance)
  • vShield edge devices

As most of the research I've done so far is centred around backing up vApps and VMs in a vCloud Director environment, it was suggested by my local VMware SE that I should poll the community here and read the blogs here as well.  What would one suggest to adequately back up the above environment other than the 156 VMs that are present in the various vApps that is...

Suggested reading or any resources that would be suggested??

We are currently using VCD 5.5 and we are experiencing issues with deploying large vApps.

I've noticed that when the creation task takes more than 5 Min it fails with the following error:

Unable to modify custom guest properties on a vapp template in Vcloud Director

$

Using curl commands, I was able to add custom guest properties to my VAPP with the productSection API.  When I select my VAPP and try to modify the custom guest property, it doesn't seem to save its state.

This was one of the blogs that helped me create the custom guest property.

Leveraging vApp & VM Custom Properties In vCloud Director - VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

When I click on VAPP properties and guest properties tab, my custom property shows up and has a text box for me to modify it.  The problem is that, no matter what I do, the value in the text box never seems to be persistent.

Does anybody have any experience with this?

Within vShield Manager, we have a new VLAN created - for some reason we are unable to add a General (Layer 3) or Ethernet (Layer 2) App Firewall rule.

I have attached a screenshot that shows how the Add Rule button is disabled.

Can anyone shed any light on why this is not letting me add a rule?

Routed Network problem - traffic not going through

Hi,

I have a problem after configuring a ORG VDC Routed Network.

Problem consists of the traffic from the VM doesn't pass through the Edge Gateway.

  1. Edge Gateway (EG)  Firewall is configured to "Allow all"
  2. EG is configured for DNS relay
  3. Form within the VM, I'm able to ping the EG "Internal" interface
  4. From within the VM, I'm able to resolve the IP of a web site "lenovo.com"
  5. Logging in to the EG (from console) i'm able to ping both "Internal" VM and the GW of the "External" intarface

Does anyone know what I'm missing or what the "bug" is??

DiskLayout property of the virtual machine [vcId=

Morning all,

Having an issue at the moment when we try to create vapp templates or creating a vapp from a catalog,  it fails with the following error:

DiskLayout property of the virtual machine [vcId=8d83a53a-3c8b-4279-a716-a55ecb844990, moref=vm-48693] is null.

It is always the same error. and you cannot delete the vapp/template either, the delete option is available but errors every time you try and delete it with the same error.

To my "untrained" eye it looks like theres an issue with a VM in the vapp,  but is there a way to find out what VM that is from the number?

Thanks

Mike
